I purchased the kindle version of this book last December. I read it when I'm stressed and needing calm. The authors descriptions of the Beautiful Shenandoah Mountains easily morph in the minds eye and transport you to a calmer and more peaceful state of mind.I live in Virginia and have been to these mountains several times as it is one of my favorite places to escape to. Robert helps me get back there more often :)

Foster does for the Shenandoah Valley what Riley did for Indiana. The poetry is clear and simple and paints a picture of a place full of beauty. My book arrived on a snowy day in January. I made a pot of tea and sat down to just peruse the book, but I found myself still sitting an hour later in the same chair with a cold cup of tea. It is because of poets like Foster that our world can make sense and that beauty can be restored. He brings the mountains and their music home.
This is a fantastic collection. I bought a copy for myself and as a Christmas gift. I have laughed, cried and relived wonderful memories. Would make a great stocking gift. Thank you Robert for sharing!!!!

Poetry is often very taste specific, but Robert Foster does a wondrous job of offering up something for everyone. This book makes for a wonderful break from the stresses of life by transporting you to another place, painting pictures in your mind of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. You can almost feel the leaves sway in the breeze.
Finally, a way to dig your toes in the sand, without leaving your couch; to picture the leaves changing on a tree-filled mountain, without getting behind the wheel to Skyline Drive; or to hear a song in your head, without even knowing the tune. That is what Mr. Foster does in his profound book of poetry, Lyrics and Poems from the Shenandoah. Each poem in the book takes you to a different and exciting place and time, from Fall through Summer, then offers a sprinkling of songs, written from the heart - you will feel your feet tap and your shoulders move to what you feel is the beat. Touching me the most was "My Brother." Because of his thoughtful and careful prose, Mr. Foster enables you to feel the sea grass touch your thigh as the boys find their special place in the sand to stare at the stars. A huge thank you to Robert Foster for providing a few hours of solitude. I will certainly re-read the book and will most certainly listen for the songs to be played on my favorite radio station. Five stars and three cheers to a fabulous writer!
This book is now my constant companion. I've found myself recently in need of beauty and comfort and solace at my fingertips that does NOT involve a smart phone. My favorite is Morning Moment "I love the way the morning mist holds fast upon the hills. The trees in silhouette stand stark. The moment now stands still."
Clearly Robb Foster understands, loves, no -- that's not the right word - adores my beautiful Shenandoah. Poetry such as this is a lost art. I'm so happy to cuddle up with this stellar collection in the morning and evening. There's something here for everyone, but especially for those of us who's life's backdrop has been these majestic mountains.
